We recognize that muscles have tension points and with the utilization of acupuncture needles we can relax tissue to provide relief of tension and pain to improve function.
Our therapists are all trained on the safe and effective application of therapeutic dry needling.

Patient’s Guide to EMG and NCV Studies
What is an EMG/NCV study?
The EMG/NCV is a two-part test. The EMG (electromyography) records the electrical activity inside the muscle and the NCV (nerve conduction velocity) test records how fast your nerves are able to conduct. The exam is often able to detect the location and severity of the problem. If your problem stems from something other than the nerve or muscle disease, the EMG/NCV will be normal.
What types of pathology does an EMG/NCV study look for?
Common nerve injuries EMG/NCV testing will evaluate include Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Cubital Tunnel Syndrome, Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome, Polyneuropathy, Cervical and Lumbar radiculopathy.
How is the study done?
During the NCV, electrodes will be taped to your skin and a stimulating electrode will deliver a low intensity electrical current through the skin to stimulate your nerves. The level of current used is extremely low and is not harmful in any way. During the EMG, a very thin needle electrode will be inserted into some of your muscles and the machine will record the electrical activity of your muscles. Nothing will be injected into the muscle.
Will the study hurt and are there risks involved with the EMG/NCV study?
During the NCV portion of the test, you will feel a very brief, small “shock” which will make your muscles twitch. While this is an unusual sensation, for most people, it is not uncomfortable. The EMG portion of the test produces some mild, momentary discomfort. The needle used is extremely small – very similar to an acupuncture needle. The risks of EMG/NCV tests are very minimal. There has never been a report of infection from this test. The muscle is not damaged from the testing. If one bleeds easily, there may be mild, temporary bruising under the skin. Please notify the examiner if you have a bleeding disorder, are taking a blood thinner, or have a pacemaker.
What do I need to do before and after the study?
Please do not apply any oils or lotion to the skin of your affected body parts on the day of the test. You may eat and take any necessary medications prior to the test. After the test, there are no limitations. You may drive and return to work.
What should I wear?
If your legs or back are to be tested, please wear or bring along a pair of shorts. If you are a female and either your upper body, hands, arms, or neck are to be tested, please wear a loose-fitting short sleeve shirt or halter or tank top.
How soon will I find out the results?
Though the examiner performing the test has a general idea of what the findings are during the test, the full results are only arrived at after more calculations and measurements are performed after the end of the test. The results are therefore usually not ready until at least 24 hours.
